It seems that Sweden is not our lucky country. On monday afternoon everyone was signalling to us that something was wrong. When we got off the bike it appeared that 19 spokes in the rear wheel were broken. One more and she would have sagged!

So we spent a good deal of the afternoon and evening fixing a complete rearwheel again, using parts from the spare. Karen is very good at this!! As a comfort we had a large piece of salmon that evening. Never tasted better!

At some of the campings here they refuse our dutch camping card and want a swedish one. we simply drive on to one where no such ridiculous demands are made

In the meantime the banging in the exhaust goes on and I have to set the ignition very often. Also she loses power and has real problems with the slightest hills

In trolhättan the problem really has to be solved. Only we don't see a real problem. Lots of things are suggested: a hole in the left piston (not there), valves have to be grinded(does not help)

The only thing that comes to mind is, that I have to set the ignition timing after every testride. Why can't I get it right once and for all?

We get a lot of help: the local bike store here in trolhättan (called Bike) offers a place to work (next to which I lay exhausted) and a countryman: Bert Fiege spent over a day under the bike Thanks Bert, thanks Wilma for lending us your husband. At one time we think there is a shortcut somewhere, so Bert cuts up his son's dummy teat to make an isolator

Then, all of a sudden I see that the shaft of the ignition timer (which is also the camshaft) can move sideways for more than half a mm. The bearing has worn too far!!

All it needs now is a new bearing (Kawa) and a good piece of wood and we have put it back together again. I made one slight mistake which will have some effects later on.

The engine now runs smoothly again, only there is a sort of 'klonk' in the main drive. After disassembly it appears there is e chunk of metal lying there. A good study shows it to have been a nut, hammered beyond recognition. A replacement is easy to be found, so back on the road again.
