A day of rest?

First we wanted to take a day off here at the Kirkeporten camping but then we decided to go down south a bit. It appeared that the Dnepr did not like this idea at all

Going uphill I had to shift down to the third gear. It didn't grab. So, nothing new, the third was making trouble for some time now. New was the fact that the second and first gears did nothing as well.

Looking back I noticed that the cardan shaft turned lustily, it was just the rear wheel that stood still as if it had nothing better to do.

With the help of a friendly italian biker we had her up some stones to take a look at the problem. I had a tackle with me for this kind of situation: just hoist her up a tree. But, as you can see: no trees on the whole island

When the wheel was out the problem was easy to see: normally the axle of the main drive has teeth that grip into teeth in the wheel. In this case the teeth on the axle were still there but the inside of the wheel was as smooth as a baby's behind

The builders of the Dnepr motorcycle know that things can go wrong, so they have ways to deal with it. One way is making all wheels of the bike, including the spare, exactly the same. So all we had to do was put the spare wheel back on and that was it. Above you can see the satisfied grin on my face while washing my hands after a job well done

The next day we went to Hammerfest and on to Alta. This picture shows the only moment of good weather we had. Took no others: we don't want to give the impression it ever rains in Norway :-)
